PROP TALK WITH LARRY JOHNSON

MERCHANDISE IT, BABY

Gifts celebrating this happy occasion are normally displayed in showcases or on shelves of wallcases: Smaller props in case, larger props on shelves. Remember that babies don’t buy, but adults do. Be sure you have some impulse items targeted toward those parents and grandparents to make the most of their visit.

YOUR CUP RUNNETH OVER

➤Engrave a classic baby cup with the name and birthdate of the store owner. Place it with a photo adjacent to your selection. Add signage to emphasize tradition.

TIME FOR CHANGE

➤ Baby banks are a traditional favorite. Place memento coins (such as silver dollars or old US currency) close-by to attract attention. Don’t be afraid to offer higher priced banks for your more generous customers.

I WAS FRAMED!

➤ Sales of silver birth certificate frames are trending up. Nothing will sell these collectibles faster than placing one in your case with a sample certificate and a photo of a happy baby. Add a rattle or pair of shoes if you have room. Simple and effective.
